I’m not sure at the moment, but that’s because I’m still quite young and am at that very indecisive stage of my life! I think it’s very likely that I’ll have a number of careers – it’s now far less common to stay in one job forever, like my parents’ generation. I’d quite like to carry on doing academic research for a bit, then try going into industry (making things for big companies like Unilever) and I’d also quite like to teach!

No matter what you choose to do at university, as long as you work hard at it, it doesn’t decide what you do for the rest of your life!

I think that scientific research is the best career for me as it suits my curious nature, I enjoy working in the lab and I find the work rewarding and satisfying. I feel very lucky that I am paid to do something I enjoy as this isn’t possible for everyone. I would say that if possible you should do something that you enjoy as unfortunately you spend a lot of time at work and if you don’t enjoy it or find it satisfying then it can be very difficult. While I am sure that I want to work in scientific research, where I work and what kind of research is another question.

I’m sure everyone would change some parts of their jobs, and if they say otherwise they are probably lying 😛 Fortunately the changes I would make are only minor, like fancier equipment and more cake.

I really enjoy my job and wouldn’t change much about it right now. I feel lucky that I am able to do something for my job which feels more like a hobby than real work, although there are obviously down sides to it as well! No job is perfect. But I think I’m good at what I do at the moment and so hopefully I’ll manage to carve out a long career doing it!

I love my job. I do not see myself having to change…I hope!
