Yes I give money to various charities who work both within the UK and the world. I think that the work that charities is very important to help people when they are having problems or to make sure that we look after the world we live in.

I do, it is very important to help charities when you can.

Charities can play an important part in research. Charities like Cancer Research UK and The Wellcome Trust fund a lot of groundbreaking research involved in curing diseases like cancer. My PhD was funded by The Wellcome Trust and I worked in The Cancer Research UK Cancer Therapeutics Unit at The Institute of Cancer Research (which itself is a charity). Without people donating to these charities they wouldn’t be able to fund the research that helps save lives.

The Wellcome Trust invests a lot of money into Diamond Light Source and “I’m A Scientist…”. They also have a great museum in London called the Wellcome Collection which has loads of really interesting science equipment and artifacts – you should check it out if you can.

I don’t have a charity that I support regularly at the moment, but I always try to put money in a charity bucket if I pass one when out shopping. I’m a Brownie/Guide leader and GirlguidingUK is also a charity. I end up giving quite a lot of money to them because I buy things and never claim the money back!
