• Question: Do you think the Megalodon still exists?

      The megalodon is reported to have become extinct millions of years ago so I think it is unlikely any still exist.

      I think given its massive size, we probably would have seen it somewhere if it still existed. But you never know what lives in the deepest darkest bits of the ocean!

      Megalodon was the ultimate ocean-going predator that had jaws so big that an adult human could simply step inside the mouth. They were top marine predators for nearly 27 million years, until they became extinct between 1-2 million years ago. It is fair to say that we have studied the surface of the moon more than we have searched the depths of the ocean, but a top predator such as this would be quite conspicuous. Great White sharks are roughly one third the size of their extinct cousins….for this we should be truly grateful!

      We know more about the surface of Mars that we do about the surface of the ocean floor, so who knows – it might be out there somewhere! I think it’s likely that we would have spotted it by now though!
