The prize money rule is that it has to be spent on teaching people about science, rather than on our own work. I’d like to buy lots of equipment so that I can run fun science sessions in schools and at my Brownie meetings (I’m a Brownie leader). All the equipment is just everyday stuff, but you need 30 of everything so that everybody can have a go themselves.

We aren’t allowed to use the money for our personal research, it is has to be used for a science communication project. I would like to buy a 3D printer to make models of protein structures to show people what they look like and how we use them to discover new drugs.

It is important to spread the word about how amazing science is and to encourage people to take an interest in it as it affects every aspect of their lives. Hopefully, we can inspire the next generation of young scientists who will shape the world and make it a better place for future generations. Ofcourse, they will also have a responsibility to inspire the next generation and so on.

Its really important that we continue to get good scientists coming along behind us so we need to inspire you, the next generation! I will make an interactive demonstration using marbles to show how atoms grow into a crystal. Its great for all ages and I’d like to be able to take it into schools and to science festivals and fairs all over the country for other people to enjoy too!

if I win the money I would use it to train other scientists about science communication. This will benefit science as a whole, by challenging my colleagues to interact and encourage the next generations of young scientists. People like you 🙂

The money would not benefit my work, but would allow my team and I to visit schools to talk about science face-to-face.
