Science is a big part of our economy and also the development of our society including technology, energy and health. Without scientists we wouldn’t make any progress in these areas and so it would be helpful if politicians had a better grasp of science. Most of the funding for research in Universities comes from the government too. So if we are going to address global warming, fossil fuels and even cancer treatments, we need the scientists to be the ones to come up with the answers. These are all issues that affect politicians.

There is not enough science in politics in my opinion. Some times politicians are guilty of deciding something and then cherry picking data to support their decision even though the majority of the evidence says otherwise. The government has many scientific advisers that give them counsel on things like energy, farming, technology, healthcare. These scientific advisers have a better understanding of these areas and politicians would be wise to listen to them.
