We don’t know much about a lot of the ocean as a lot of it is still unexplored! We know much more about space and the surfaces of other planets. There is likely lots of species of fish and plants that are yet to be discovered lurking in the dark depths of the deepest oceans.

The bottom of the ocean is huge – about 71% of the earth is covered by water. We know more about the surface of Mars than we do about the ocean floor, because it’s easier to see!

The ocean floor…and a community of organisms that we know very little about. One of my mates is a submariner (submarines and such!) and he tells amazing tales of new beasties that he sees on dives to deep ocean basins. If you drag life up from the deep ocean…it dies and is hard to study, so we have to go to real depths to understand life on the ocean floor.
