I think its always wise to be open minded and consider other job options. But I don’t think I’d ever be a teacher – I have a massive amount of respect for teachers and I like talking to students but I also like being able to go away and do other things and discover new things as part of my job.

I like doing research too much to give it up, I think. I like talking to people about my work and other science but I don’t think I could do it full-time! Talking to you students has been really inspiring, rewarding and I’ve learnt a thing or two as well. So this has made me think I should do more science communication but I’m not sure I’ll ever be a teacher.

Yes definitely! I really enjoy teaching people about science and have often thought about becoming a teacher after I’ve done my PhD. I think I’ll stay for a few more years in research and then choose whether I want to teach or whether I want a research job that lets me go talk to school children regularly.
